Kids Ride Safe: A Simple Sticker That Could Make a Big Difference

Seymour Helping Hands is excited to introduce a new community program called “Kids Ride Safe,” designed to provide parents, grandparents, and caregivers with a simple tool that could make a big difference during an emergency.

Through the Kids Ride Safe program, Seymour Helping Hands is providing free emergency information stickers that can be placed on your child's car seat. The sticker allows parents or caregivers to provide important information that may be helpful if an accident or emergency occurs.

In a stressful situation, every second counts. The information on the sticker can help emergency responders quickly identify a child and provide important details, such as the child's name and allergies. It can also provide emergency contact information for family members, helping responders know who to contact without having to search through a parent's phone or other belongings.

The stickers are completely free and are available at Seymour Helping Hands. Parents, grandparents, and anyone who regularly transports children are encouraged to stop by and pick one up.

We also want to remind families that Texas law requires children younger than 8 years old, unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches, to be properly secured in an appropriate child passenger safety seat system while riding in a passenger vehicle. The safety seat must be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Even when a child reaches the age when a car seat or booster is no longer legally required, parents should consider the child's size and how well the vehicle's adult seat belt fits. A child who is still under 4'9" may be better protected by continuing to use an appropriate booster seat until the adult seat belt fits properly.

The Kids Ride Safe program isn't just about the sticker. Seymour Helping Hands also has information available about resources that may help families obtain a new car seat if they are unable to afford one. A properly fitting and properly installed car seat is an important part of keeping our youngest community members safe.

From time to time, our local law enforcement agencies also conduct child passenger safety seat checks. If you have questions about whether your child's car seat is installed correctly, we encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities. If you ask, our local law enforcement officers can help check the installation and make sure you are using the seat correctly.

Seymour Helping Hands believes that keeping children safe is something our entire community can take part in. The Kids Ride Safe sticker may be a small thing, but having important information readily available during an emergency could save valuable time and provide peace of mind for families.

Stop by Seymour Helping Hands at 100 S. Washington and pick up your free Kids Ride Safe sticker.

A few minutes today could make a big difference when it matters most. Because when it comes to our children, every little bit of preparation matters.
